Listing all the places I get to try in Mexico CityCombining all the delicious food places and giving you an honest review about it. Mandolina, Polanco, Mexico CityMandolina Good Mediterranean food, with of course a Mexican twist. I highly recommend the croquetas de camote (croquetas are the "mexicain arancini filled with mashed potatoes & Serrano ham") that being said, the croquetas at Mandolina are filled with sweet potato mash and they are incredible! This restaurant is giving European vibes, they are trying to give the Sicilian vibes with the lemons and it's really cute and cozy. Ideal for breakfast, lunch and tea time. Nothing to say about the service because in Mexico City, the service is literally the best you can ever experience. Sadly I couldn't get my hands on the menu again, so I will describe the dishes best I can, for you to be able to get the same plates if you want to try them. 1: Iceberg salade with cucumber, tried tomatoes, parmesan. 2: Croquetas de camote 3: Gnocchi with tomato sauce (super yum) 4: Chicken sandwich with pesto and croquetas (in French we would call those 'pomme dauphine'. The chicken was extremely tender, remarkable
Rosetta, Roma, Mexico CityRosetta Yummy if you are looking for a break from the Mexican traditional food. This is one of the gems of Mexico City, beautiful presentation, cozy location and delicious food. This place gives me European vibes (French too with the different plates). The menu is varied, you can still find some Mexican dishes and find the Mexican touch in each dishes, but it's a good escape. The meat was extremely tender! They constantly change the menu so it's a good place to go to if you live in the city and a must try, if you are visiting. 1: Endives, vanilla, lemon and pixtle 2: Roasted sweet potatoes, buttermilk and macha sauce 3: Braised short ribs and polenta 4: Tagliolini with white truffle 5: Taleggio tortellini & chargrilled vegetable broth 6: Macadamia tres leches cake & caramelised bananas Belmondo, Roma Norte, Mexico CityWhen you spend a while in Mexico City, you will maybe get to the point that you miss "true" American/ English breakfast. Belmondo has delicious eggs Benedict's! I highly recommend this breakfast spot if you are craving eggs, without "too much" Mexican touch. The sauce itself is to die for! The only Mexican touch is the bacon, and I won't keep them accountable for that, because it is truly hard to find perfect breakfast bacon outside the US & the UK in my opinion.
Pujol, Polanco, Mexico CityMy honest review about one of the most hyped up restaurant in town. First things first, is it worth the hype? NO (that's my personal opinion) This place has often been referred to me as "similar to a guide Michelin", after trying Pujol, I might have to say that this restaurant is not similar to a guide Michelin for the following reasons. The food overall was good, but the expectation and price that is set into people's mind doesn't add up with the experience I had and that is the only reason why I don't think that it can be associated to a guide Michelin. My main issue with the dishes (and again, I'm only judging the place this way, because it's the way that they are trying to represent themselves as.) To me, a guide Michelin needs to have variety, surprises and a wow factor for every dish. Even though we are in mexico, when in one menu several "tacos" are being brought, it's loosing the excitement, discovery feelings. So this was a little disappointment, another thing that I picked up, is that the chef is creating dishes that only has one flavour taking over the rest ... which is a little annoying. I will carry on this point with the photos below. -The corn was most likely one of my favorite dish, the smokiness was mind-blowing; but then I realised it's the smokiness the one and only flavour... -For the tuna tostadas, waaaayyy to much chive for the ratio between chives/ tortilla/ tuna. -The shaved truffle tacos, I think that I can say "enough truffle" the flavour was just too much, and I'm a truffle lover. -The octopus tacos, the leaf was extremely liquorish and so did the mole and the little greens inside the taco... this was only liquorish and it was the only flavour that could be recognised. The main dessert is the one on the left, and it was once again the same texture.... Ice cream and panna cotta are similar textures, the churros were great, but would I go back, just to eat churros ... no. I think it's a place to try once, if you are in town but if you don't manage, it's no big deal.
